What's the catch?

That's the thing – there isn't one! With Free, you get a great OS without paying a penny. There are a few things to note though:

Edge Free includes a lot less software by default. However, we’ve still included the Software app, so you an download more programs whenever you want.
As the YaST setup tool is missing with Free, you won't be able to fine-tune some of your system's more advanced settings.
Whilst you can re-distribute the software elsewhere, you cannot sell it on and you must quote Expheron Labs as a developer.
Finally, Edge Cloud on Free is limited. You only get 5 GB of storage and many of the advanced features are limited. You can buy separate Edge Cloud plans, however.
